You know what helps? Seemingly "little" things like this placemat my son made for me. Why did he make it for me? No reason.
"Because I love you, Mom."
It took him a lot of focus for several minutes in a row to write in block letters, think of the sentiments, convey the feelings, tape the paper together...and the whole time he was thinking about me.
He still sees me as love - even though I get crabby. He still sees me as life, even when I feel like a failure. To him, I'm the best mom ever! I walk around here thinking I'm some sort of teacher most of the time, and then I have a humbling moment like this. He teaches me, he inspires me.
When life seems too big to influence, remember the small things that make it all worthwhile.
